Fighting Hunger

In January 1954, Alpha Gam sister Margaret Moffat Toy pioneered the first home-delivery meal program in the U.S. That program is now known as Meals on Wheels. Today, we are proud partners with both Meals on Wheels and Feeding America. Through service, awareness and fundraising, we join their efforts in the fight to overcome food insecurity right here on our own community.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose calls us to “welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work.” In addition to our fight against hunger, Alpha Gams all across North America participate in an annual Week of Service each February. Collegiate and alumnae members serve in a variety of ways and contribute their time, energy, funds and voices to joyfully serve others.

Here at CWRU, the sisters of Alpha Gam aim to give back to our community. Our philanthropy is fighting hunger, and we support the Alpha Gamma Delta foundation which provides grants to non profits around the US and Canada to support their fight against hunger. Through our commitment to our philanthropy our sisters have taken on leadership opportunities throughout the CWRU and Greater Cleveland area. We fundraise for the Alpha Gamma Delta foundation through our philanthropy events, such as Sweet Life of Alpha Gam and Kick Out Hunger. Sisters also participate in activities locally through volunteering at the Cleveland Food Bank, supporting Meals on Wheels, and hosting can drives.
