Fighting Hunger

In January 1954, Alpha Gam sister Margaret Moffat Toy pioneered the first home-delivery meal program in the U.S. That program is now known as Meals on Wheels. Today, we are proud partners with both Meals on Wheels and Feeding America. Through service, awareness and fundraising, we join their efforts in the fight to overcome food insecurity right here on our own community.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose calls us to “welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work.” In addition to our fight against hunger, Alpha Gams all across North America participate in an annual Week of Service each February. Collegiate and alumnae members serve in a variety of ways and contribute their time, energy, funds and voices to joyfully serve others.

Here at CWRU, the sisters of Alpha Gam aim to give back to our community. We partner with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to provide sisters with volunteer experiences. Many of our members also work with the food recovery network, meals on wheels, as well as other non-food related volunteering opportunities. We have philanthropy events each fall and spring semester. Last semester we held a virtual 5k where sisters were able to raise money and then get out and run! We cannot wait until we can have in-person philanthropy events again!
